N Street Village Receives Transformative Citi Foundation Grant

N Street Village selected as a Recipient of $500,000 Grant from the Citi Foundation in 2024 Global Innovation Challenge to Advance Solutions to Homelessness

N Street Village is proud to join a cohort of 50 organizations from around the world as a Citi Foundation 2024 Global Innovation Challenge recipient working to address homelessness.

As the largest provider of housing and supportive services for women experiencing homelessness in D.C., N Street Village partners with women to achieve stability and make meaningful gains in their housing, income, employment, mental health, physical health, and addiction recovery goals.

“This grant is a gamechanger for us,” said Leora Braden Ibraheem, Chief Program Officer for N Street Village. “It will allow us to provide an intensive behavioral health support program designed to meet the needs of older women, allowing them to remain stably housed. In addition, we will provide specialized staff training and support to care for this growing client population.”

“Adding staff specifically trained to address behavioral and mental health issues is particularly critical as more than half of N Street Village’s permanent supportive housing residents report having mental illness or addiction challenges,” said N Street Village Chief Executive Officer Portia Robertson Migas.

N Street Village is the only Washington, D.C. area service provider selected as a Citi Foundation 2024 Global Innovation Challenge recipient, and we were one of just nine organizations selected in the United States.

“Since launching the inaugural Global Innovation Challenge in early 2023, we’ve continued to see how community-based solutions are poised to accelerate impact on the ground,” said Brandee McHale, President of the Citi Foundation and Head of Citi Community Investing & Development. “We call this grant support ‘catalytic’ given the multiplier effect it can have on low-income communities. Each organization will not only directly impact the lives of people in crisis today, but also create models that can be replicated in other communities around the world tomorrow.”

“We are immensely grateful for this grant from the Citi Foundation,” said Peter Shields, Chair of the N Street Village Board of Directors. “This recognition reflects our commitment to our mission and the trust our supporters place in us. With this funding, we will be able to pursue innovative solutions and drive significant progress in our support of women, ensuring we continue to meet the needs of our community.”

The Citi Foundation’s 2024 Global Innovation Challenge provides a collective $25 million in catalytic funding to support community organizations around the world working in novel ways to address homelessness.
