Doing Good Campaign Highlights N Street Village
 Bill Cosby and Earl Stafford
It has been one year since President Obama’s Inauguration and NSV’s relationship is still going strong with our inaugural connection-The Stafford Foundation. In January 2009 businessman Earl Stafford and his family created the People’s Inaugural Project, which hosted over 300 homeless people, wounded soldiers and other disadvantaged populations for a three-day celebration at the JW Marriott Hotel costing in excess of one million dollars. N Street Village was fortunate to have 10 women selected to participate in this extraordinary event. In the year’s interim, the Stafford Foundation has provided more than $600,000 to advance the work of the organizations representing the guests who attended.
Fast forward to the first anniversary of the People’s Ball, and the faith-based Stafford Foundation has just launched their new national “Doing Good Campaign.” The campaign kicked off with an event on Wednesday, January 20 featuring comedian and educator Bill Cosby as the keynote speaker and NSV Executive Director Mary Funke as a speaker. N Street Village was also honored to have Dr. Funke and one of our clients, Mary Virginia, invited to meet privately with Earl Stafford and Bill Cosby in advance of the official launching of the campaign.
Dr. Funke lauded our deepening relationship with the Stafford Family Foundation and underscored the significance of this initiative. “The Doing Good campaign will inspire countless individuals and organizations to become more involved and supportive of so many worthwhile organizations, not the least of which is N Street Village,” she said.
The Washington Post did a feature story on the People’s Project effort, and NSV client Mary Virginia was quoted as telling Mr. Stafford and Cosby that her participation in the People’s Inaugural Ball helped restore her “dignity”. Additionally, WJLA Channel 7 news broadcasted an evening news story featuring Mary Funke’s positive reaction to this new campaign helping underserved citizens and communities.
